Introduction to GIS and GPS

This course is going to:

Give an overview of the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS)
Provide workflows enabling the user to work along with the course.
Allow the user to evaluate their progress with self evaluations throughout the course.

There will be lessons, review questions, workflows, and self-assessments.

Lessons of the course will guide you through the different topics of GIS & GPS. At the top and bottom of the page is a navigation bar with a series of links. Using these links you will be able to view specific lessons in any module of the course.

Review Questions that are multiple-choice will pop up as you work through the lessons. These are intended to provide you with immediate feedback on what you have learned. If you are logged on to the Virtual Geospatial Camp, you can choose to disable these through your preferences on the Home page.

Workflows are "hands-on" exercises that will let you apply what you've learned. You'll need access to your GeoMedia Professional 5.1 software to be able to complete the workflows. You may find it useful to print the workflows to follow along as you go.

Self-assessments are availabe at the end of each Module in the course, if you are logged on to the camp. The purpose of these quizzes is to make sure that you really understand the material as well as you think you do. You may take them as many times as you wish, but you will have to wait at least one day before taking the same self-assessment again. If you are planning on attending one of the Geospatial Camps, you must complete this course with an average score of 80%. You can view your average score on your Home page.
