Introduction to Website Design Offered as Distance Learning through the EAST Adobe Connect system
What is this course? This is an online course that will remotely provide a basic introduction to the fundamentals of web design broadcasted directly to your school.
What software is needed? Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver or higher, and Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks MX or higher.
I have never used Adobe Connect, what do I need? One week before the start of the class, registered participants will receive an Adobe Connect invitation and instructions on how to login to the class.
Who should take this course? This is a great course for students who have little or no experience in web design and want to see if it is an area they wish to pursue, or students who want to perfect their current experience. This class is a beginner course to introduce you to the area of website development.
Why should I take this course? This course will give you the tools necessary to be able to develop a basic web page complete with graphics, menus, tables, links, sub-pages, and more. Also you will gain enough experience in Dreamweaver and Fireworks to continue learning on your own.
How long is this course? The course consists of four sessions each lasting approx. 30-45 minutes. After the session is complete, you will be given an assignment to work on your own and be completed by the next session.
What are the course objectives and expectations of me?
You will be able to:
• Gain beginner level knowledge of web design
• Be able to manipulate and maintain web pages
• Create, modify, and publish their own web site
• All students are expected to complete individual exercises and publish a simple starter web site by the end of the course

Prerequisite - Prior to the first session, students must view the Introduction to Dreamweaver video located at: http://outreach.cast.uark.edu/east/east/web/tutorials/index.html
Session 1 This session will provide some basic fundamentals of Adobe Dreamweaver You will also learn the basic principles of effective web design strategies and layout. This session will also give you an introduction to the graphics software Adobe Fireworks, which accompanies Dreamweaver. Students will develop a home page.

Session 2 This session will integrate the two products (Dreamweaver and Fireworks) from the previous session. You will learn to develop secondary pages and will learn advanced techniques prior to the exportation of your website. Afterwards, students will learn how to edit sites that are already exported or pre-made.
