Critical Update

Two Major Updates:
  1. Operating system (OS) update (from 5.1.13 to 5.1.16)
    -This update will fix many common problems with these units!
  2. Firmware Update
    -Firmware is a permanent set of instructions that your unit uses every time you turn it on. This update will help to insure that your unit operates the way it should.

FIRST: Check your unit’s Operating System version
To do this go to:  Start > Settings > System Info.

  • If you see that you have version 5.1.13, continue to “OS UPDATE”
  • If you see that you have version 5.1.16, continue to “FIRMWARE UPDATE”

SECOND: Operating System UPDATE
  1. MAKE SURE YOUR GPS UNIT IS AT FULL POWER BEFORE PROCEEDING TO ANY FURTHER STEPS
  2. Conduct a complete flash to clear the GeoXM’s system
        • Hold down 2 bars and the green power button simultaneously, normally for 15 seconds but maybe longer.
        • Follow the instructions and press the keys up, right, down, then left
  3. Download (here) English versions of:
    Right-click 5.1.15 - save to disk AND 5.1.16 - save to disk
        • Connect your GPS unit to your PC via your USB cable and Active Sync software
        • Open your Explore folder that is in the upper corner of the Active Sync window.
        • Navigate to – My Windows Mobile (icon looks similar to unit)
        • Program files – open
  4. Drag and drop the .msi files into the unit

** The file names are large and hard to differentiate which one is which on the GPS unit.  Know that the 5.1.15 is the larger file and must be run first.

THIRD: RESTART YOUR GPS go to:

Start – File Explorer – navigate to the Program File folder

  • -Tap on the 5.1.15 file (the larger one)
  • -See “Validation” – click “OK”
  • -See “Device must have reboot” - hit “Update” in the bottom left corner
  • -Complete the same steps as above for the 5.1.16 file

FOURTH: FIRMWARE UPDATE
*Your unit has to be in the cradle, and the cradle must be plugged in to a power outlet and connected to your PC for this update.

  • -Download the Firmware Update from here
  • V1.82  GeoExplorer 2005, 2005 series, GPS Firmware
  • Run upgrade from your computer
